Is Jay Nixon Ashamed to be a Democrat?

I’ve long maintained that Governor Jay Nixon is as arrogant and corrupt as a Republican, but I had no idea that he is actually trying to pass himself off as one. Check out his slick new web page, and try to decipher what party got him elected. He doesn’t make it easy on you – he does not identify himself as a Democrat anywhere on the front page of his website. Go ahead and check his “Meet Jay” page, and you won’t find himself mentioning his party affiliation.

Is it any wonder that Missouri Democrats are struggling? With leaders like Jay “What Party Am I?” Nixon, it’s hard to inspire much pride in being a Democrat.

Jay has always been a DINO, Democrat in Name Only. I don’t see how this even a tiny bit surprising.

Identifying as a member of either party is becoming a political liability. And rightfully so, in my opinion.

With voters like we have, is it any wonder we get “Democrats” like Nixon and McCaskill? Wake me up when the left end of the political spectrum has anybody in it.

Best Democrat Governor in quite some time. Hey, I know it’s crazy, but we actually balance our budget in Missouri, something most Democrats don’t understand. :)

Apparently, some republicans don’t understand that a balanced budget is a requirement in Missouri, and that we have always had balanced budgets, under governors of both parties. Even the wildly incompetent boy Blunt did that, as did the wildly non-charismatic Bob Holden. Nixon deserves no praise for that “accomplishment”.

  6. wkb says:

Gonemild, I must disagree…I think just about everyone knows we are required to balance the budget…but the decisions made during Blunt’s term and Nixon’s (and by the Republican-controlled General Assembly) put us in a solid financial condition, particularly compared to other states that made crazy decisions for which that are now paying (and will be for years to come).

I like things best when they are in the middle, rather than on either end of the spectrum. For example, the Republicans have focused too much on certain morality-based bills and a few over-the-top pro-business bills. Overall, however, we are in good shape.

Nixon’s a good, moderate Democrat. Now, he holds entirely too many press conferences…but he’s in the mold of the old Missouri Democrats. Not perfect, but he is actually getting some things done even though the General Assembly is not controlled by his party.

  7. gonemild says:

Hmm – so that stuff about the balanced budget was just nonsense, right?

Now that we’ve cleared that up, I’m not at all surprised that you, a republican, appreciate Jay Nixon’s brand of Democrats. In fact, that’s kind of my point – Jay Nixon is a politician who strives to appeal to you – and the far crazier republicans in the legislature – than to me. And his refusal to champion the Democratic party means that he’s not fostering any Dems down the line. We are at risk of becoming a one-party state, and Jay Nixon is not doing anything to avoid that. If I were you, I might build a shrine to him.

    Gov. Nixon is Corrupt?

Prove it, Dan, or be exposed as a libelous bitch.

You don’t want to play this game with me. I know Nixon’s background better than you do, and I know libel better than you do. Go ahead and research his dealings with Ameren during the Johnson’s Shut-Ins situation. Go ahead and research his behavior with the KCMSD pianos. Go ahead and research his utter failure to support Democrats after relying on the party to get himself elected. I could continue on . . .

    “…arrogant and corrupt as a Republican,…”

Hate to break it to you but both parties are “arrogant and corrupt”. It’s just that progressive/liberals lik you and neocons REFUSE to recognize it. Get off your partisan high horse and do what’s right for the people. And that’s ALWAYS somewhere to the right of where you sit and to the left of where your self-professed enemies sit. Both sides make me sick because they can only do what’s in their best interest to stay in office and maintain some level of power over the people and their political enemies. Representing the people is not about power or staying in office for a lifetime, it’s about making their lives better. Get your heads around that idea and maybe both sides can actually do some good in the future.

Casual – Comments like yours remind me of Thomas Friedman – utterly useless and delusional, but amusing until you get the sick realization that it is meant to be serious. Now, first of all, read the post that you’re commenting on – a Democrat criticizing a democrat. Does it strike you that I am a knee-jerk supporter of Democrats?? Next, let’s look at your wise policy pronouncements – “Get off your partisan high horse and do what’s right for the people.” Ohhhhhh – “what’s right for the people?!?!?!” What, exactly, do you have in mind? People like you that just sit on the sidelines with disdain for those on both sides are the most useless people on earth. Casual Observer, indeed. Observe somebody with guts and determination get involved, and then tell us who’s going to make a difference in the world.
