Liberty Mutual “Responsible” Ad – “Normally, the Pizza Guy Would Die”

Liberty Mutual gives a bleak glimpse into the soul of insurance industry executives in the ad campaign they’ve been running stressing that they are “responsible”. In a “pay it forward” montage backed by spacey vocals, people are inspired by witnessing good deeds to perform their own. The payoff “good deed” is when a woman, inspired by a guy putting change into someone else’s parking meter, reaches out to prevent a distracted pizza guy from walking out into traffic.

Only the insurance industry would feel the need to provide the “back story” explaining why an ordinary human being would go through the effort to prevent a pizza dude from getting run over by a car. I can imagine the room full of profit-crazed, benefits-denying, soulless bastards in the screening room being blown away by the thought that this woman would bother helping anyone without a lawyer or regulator forcing her to do it.

It’s not very comforting to see a company advertising that they’ll do the right thing if they’re in the right mood.

I think you may be too generous, Dan. After all, I’m pretty sure being a pizza delivery guy is a preexisting condition.

    Well-played sir.
